About FilePrepKit

FilePrepKit started from a specific, annoying problem: a purchased cut file that looked perfect in preview and then failed halfway through a laser job, for reasons that weren't obvious until much later — an open path invisible to the eye, buried in a file from a marketplace with no way to check it beforehand. That kind of failure costs more than time; it costs material, and sometimes a project you were counting on finishing.

That problem, repeated enough times across SVGs, cut files, and photos prepared for engraving, is what this site is built to prevent. Every tool here exists to answer a version of the same question: is this file actually going to do what I expect once it reaches a real machine, a real customer, or a real listing — not just how it looks on screen right now.

Who this is for

FilePrepKit is built for people doing hands-on, practical work with digital files: designers cleaning up their own artwork, Cricut and plotter users prepping cut files, laser engravers turning ordinary photos into finished pieces, and sellers packaging digital products for Etsy and similar marketplaces. If you've ever had a file fail in a way that seemed to come out of nowhere, this site exists because of exactly that experience.

What makes it different

Two things, deliberately: everything runs in your browser rather than uploading your files to a server, and every tool is built around a specific real problem rather than being a generic, do-everything converter. The tradeoff is that FilePrepKit will never try to be the one tool that does absolutely everything — but what it does, it tries to do with a clear understanding of why it matters.

Where it's going

New tools get added based on real problems, not trend-chasing — including ones suggested directly by people using the site. If something here doesn't quite do what you need, or you've hit a wall this site should help with but doesn't yet, that feedback is genuinely how the next tool gets decided.
